My Favourite Apps

Hey there guys and gals, I feel like it's been a little while since I've posted, I've just been getting back into the swing of uni life this past week which has been super hectic and unfortunately my blog has been seriously neglected! But that will hopefully change now that I'm a bit more settled.

Today I thought I'd talk about apps, which is a bit of a joke since I'm  really not much of an app person- kind of sad really since I'm not sure I really get the most out of having an iPhone- but the few apps I do use regularly, I really really love so I thought I'd give you a little round-up in the hope you might enjoy them yourself! Also, all of these apps are free which is a double win really.

8 Tracks
K so I've been ranting and raving about '8 Tracks' on my blog for a while now and I know it's pretty old news in general but it is the best app, for real. It lets you type in tags (e.g. 'studying', 'folk', 'getting ready') so you can find different playlists people have uploaded and listen to them for free! It's so amazing for finding new tunes, I guarantee it will revolutionise your music-listening experience. It certainly has done so for me.

Kindle
Again, hardly revolutionary but boy do I love the Kindle App for iPhone! (not as much I've been enjoying having a real kindle to be fair though). It's just so handy for reading on the go or whenever you're flicking through your phone in awkward social situations. There's also the fact that ebooks are a lot cheaper than physical copies so essentially it can save you some money as well.

Afterlight
Considering the camera I use for my blog isn't really that great this app is a bit of a life saver! It's got a really extensive range of filters, frames and photo editing tools, much better than any online editor I've ever used, or any other app for that matter. I literally use it allllll the time for blogging and instagram.

Duolingo
Potentially the sweetest app ever especially if you're a total language nerd like me! Basically this app is a game that teaches you the basics of up to 6 European languages (Spanish, French, German Italian, Portuguese and Dutch) and is an absolute dream, I honestly can't believe it's free! So far I've been doing a little bit of everything and I even find it really helpful for picking up more obscure words in Spanish and Italian (which I already study). It's really fun and really addictive if you're into languages or fancy learning a new one. I'd definitely recommend especially if you're studying any languages at GCSE level at the minute, I can imagine this would help a lot!

What are your favourite apps?

  1. All those apps seem great, especially Kindle and AfterLight! Can't wait to upload them! However I don't have a smart phone yet...and yes I do feel like an outcast 99% of the time! ahah :)

    1. No there are definitely times when I wish I didn't have a smartphone. It would be nice I think not to be just constantly in contact with everyone! xx

  2. I'm always so terrified to download apps. I don't really know why. I guess I just don't want to clutter up my phone with a bunch of apps that I'll never use. So I really just have the basics and some social media stuff like facebook and pinterest and stuff like that. But I actually kind of want these apps.... Especially the 8 tracks and duolingo (yay! language nerd!) I need to go and check them out! :)

    1. Yeah I getcha, I normally get them, try them out, don't understand them and then delete them again. If you like languages you should definitely try Duolingo though :) xx

  3. I'm rubbish at using apps too - thank you so much for introducing me to these! The language one sounds so sweet, just the thing to help me re-teach myself french!

  4. I love using 8 tracks as well! I liked the kindle app but much prefer my kindle as it's so much easier on the eyes. I have duolingo on my phone but never seem to get around to using it! xx

    1. Oh yeah completely, the phone app is really hard on your eyes. I'm loving how the text on my kindle fire is a lot bigger than even in normal books, makes it so much easier to read! xx

  5. I love posts like this because I can never be bothered to trawl through all the apps on the app store and find the perfect ones! That language one looks particularly useful, as I'm in France at the moment studying!

  6. Great post! I think the language app you mentioned is the coolest! I'll have to check out Afterlight too, I currently use Snapseed and it's quite limited.

    1. It is! You should give it a go. I used to use an app called PicFX and really it doesn't even compare to Afterlight! x

  8. I use (not as much as I'd like) Duolingo- I love languages and if I wasn't doing my current degree, I think I'd have gone down the languages route. I started learning Portuguese from scratch on it last year, and although it's completely different from any language lessons I've done before, I love picking up words and sentences. I also tried a bit of German and would love to give Dutch a try too... Why don't I have more time?!

    1. That's awesome :) I love the way you can basically pick up languages from scratch on it, like it actually gives you really good basic knowledge. I'd always thought Portuguese was quite similar to Spanish until I tried it on Duolingo and found it's actually completely different!xx

  9. Ah, thanks for recommending 8 Tracks! Never knew there was such an app, and free?!

    And Duolingo sounds really cool.

  11. These apps all sound great. The moment I finished reading this blog post (roughly three minutes ago), I went and got three out of four. Only three, because the fourth, would be kindle, which I already have as a physical form (although don't use as much as I probably should... I just can't help that I love books so much in physical form!).

Also, don't know if I did so already, but I'd just like to say thanks for the follow!

    1. Aw that's super! I'm glad you liked the sound of them!! I'm a fan of books in their physical form too... I feel kinda bad for having a kindle... xx

  12. My daddy is an iPhone app designer, so despite the fact that I'm obsessed with old fashioned things (namely the physical books my family no longer believes in but I valiently fight for), I am always interested to learn about new apps. DuoLingo is one of my all time favorites, I'm determined to learn a few languages. Being monolingual is not okay. And as a fellow blogger working without a shmancy camera, I was very glad to her about Afterlight.

By the way, I just found your blog through bloglovin and am really enjoying it. I've always dreamed of visiting the UK and Ireland, so seeing your adventures there is a real treat.
