Uni Room Inspo | 2014

So it's that time of year again when I start to gather up bits and pieces for my new uni room in October!  I absolutely love doing this, it's definitely the best part of moving back to uni. I have a fair idea of what sort of stuff I'm going to go for this year and have picked up a few of the things below already but I thought I'd share with you some of the different ideas I'd looked at and the various looks that inspired me

I thought the textured white duvet cover in the picture on the left was a really good idea since it means you can dress it up with any colours or patterns you like without it being overpowering yet the texture adds a little bit more dimension rather than just having it be plain white.

I know photo strings aren't the most original idea any more but I liked the way this person had pinned these in a sort of rectangle. It would make a really nice feature piece on a wall I think and it's very cheap and easy to do as well!

These are a few of the cushions I'm thinking of having on my bed and I've bought a few of them already. The pink, turquoise and 'Choose Happiness' cushion covers are from H&M home: Pink velvet cushion cover; Turquoise velvet cushion cover; 'Choose Happiness' cushion cover. The blue geometric print cushion then is from Dunelm.

The photo on the right was my main bedroom inspiration with all the layers and mismatched  patterned cushions, though I've decided to go a little bit brighter. I don't know if I'll actually end up doing this but I think the origami swans are a really cool idea, I can just imagine my attempt going horrible wrong though!

I thought this owl cushion cover from H&M home was very cute.

Again, loving the textured white duvet, but I also like the way the fairy lights go around the corner of the room, and I like the bunting and vintage map of the world too!

These are just a few more ideas for how to hang photos on my room and again I think they're a bit different, especially the one on the right!

If you're moving into new uni accommodation I'd love to hear the sort of ideas you have for your room too.
Hope you're all well!

  1. I am currently living on campus at university, but I am about to move out to my first share house with friends, and I am overwhelmed with excitement to restyle my new room! I am thinking lots of cute cushions (like the ones you have shown), quirky arts, anything random and homey I can find at markets etc, and hopefully create a mix of random coolness! haha. Love your pictures - great style. x

  3. I love layers of blankets on a bed, especially if like you say the duvet cover is plain and then you can add on whatever texture or color you want ! And it's great for keeping cozy in the winter.

Mine is going to be mostly pink, I've brought bunting, fairy lights, blankets, this adorable cat cushion and I've decorated my plant pots (cacti) and made a few little diys. It'll be cute I'm so excited:')

  6. My old uni walls were just covered top to bottom in posters of metal bands (I was a big metal head back in my uni days - going on like 9 years ago) although they were great for covering up the nasty attic walls of our house lol. Always love having a plant or two though, they always add a little extra life into a room.

    1. Totes agree about the plants! I grew some nasturtiums last year for my room and had a lavender plant but there wasn't enough room in the car to bring them home with me so I had get rid of them... I felt so bad, they were like my babies since I'd grown them from seeds and everything :(

  13. All of these are so beautiful, one of my favourite things about uni was decorating my room, as silly as that sounds. It's a great time to be creative and still a little fun too.

Great post and some ideas I might take for my house anyway!

  14. I'm going back into halls and trying to get an idea of what theme I want for my room. Those oragami swans are super cool. I think i'll start making a load of them while I have the time. Unfortunately my walls are a strange yellow colour which sort of limits things. The first thing I know i'm going to change is the curtains. I love your idea of mismashing colours and patterns. Your inspiration indicates that your room is going to be nice and cosy for the winter. Can't wait to see pictures of how it turns out! www.prettynostalgia.blogspot.co.uk
